Martin Messmer joined Argent Mineral Management in 2026 as an audit associate in the Shreveport, Louisiana office. A licensed Professional Geologist with 18 years of experience, his focus is on mineral economics and fair market valuation of mineral properties.
Before joining Argent, Martin worked as a senior geologist for 14 years in the Appraisal and Valuation Services Office at the U.S. Department of the Interior, where he provided due diligence evaluations, market research, and economic analysis of federal, Tribal, state, and private mineral assets and ownership rights across much of the U.S. He has extensive experience working closely with many of the federal land-managing agencies. His work focused on fair market valuation of oil, gas, coal, and many hard-rock minerals, integrating geologic interpretation with production data, market trends, and income-approach valuation methods. He managed complex valuation programs for client bureaus, led cross-disciplinary teams, and worked directly with Tribal Nations, operators, and realty transaction stakeholders. He has also served as a consultant and expert witness in high-profile mineral-related litigation cases.
From 2020 to 2021, he worked as a field geologist with the Bureau of Land Management in Las Vegas, Nevada, conducting mining claim and mine site inspections, mineral trespass investigations, production verification, and revenue audits. Martin also worked two years early on in his career with the U.S. Geological Survey in earthquake hazards research.
Martin holds a master’s degree in geology from Stephen F. Austin State University, where his thesis research and field work focused on the structural geology and tectonic evolution of the Ouachita Mountains of west-central Arkansas. He is an active member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Geological Society of America, and the Shreveport Geological Society.
Martin lives in Bossier City with his wife, Jessica, and their two young boys.
