Matthew Adams serves as Senior Vice President and Fiduciary Consultant in Argent Trust Company’s Kansas City and Atlanta offices, focusing on fiduciary services for employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), executive compensation, and business succession planning.
Prior to joining Argent, Matthew served as Vice President at another institutional trustee, where he worked with more than 50 ESOPs as a discretionary or directed trustee. In this role, he ensured compliance with Department of Labor and IRS regulations, coordinated with outside legal counsel, oversaw the buying and selling of company securities by ESOPs, conducted trustee due diligence, and served as shareholder representative for the benefit of ESOP participants.
Previously, Matthew was an attorney with a large national law firm, advising clients on the structuring and administration of ESOPs, executive compensation agreements, equity-based plans, and employee benefit plan matters related to mergers and acquisitions. He also held attorney positions with two additional law firms, focusing on estate planning, business succession, tax strategy, and transactional matters for private businesses and individuals.
Matthew earned a Tax LL.M. with a Certificate in Wealth Transfer and Legacy Planning from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, a Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Florida.
He is an active member of the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO) and The ESOP Association (TEA).
