1| Which nonprofit are you passionate about serving?
Seeker Springs
History: A Mission Camp designed to reach children and youth who are facing difficult life situations and have been placed in foster care. The goal is to help these kids understand they are loved and begin to restore lost hope. The kids are identified and referred by various community agencies and schools. Camp is free to the participants and is supported by businesses, churches, foundations and individuals.
Sibling Foster Camp is an opportunity for siblings who have been separated in the foster care system to have a unique opportunity to reunite in a healthy environment. The camp provides a safe, fun-filled environment for kids to focus on their relationship with their siblings and their relationships with others. Every activity that takes place during camp demonstrates to these siblings that they have a purpose, they have family and there is hope. Click here for more information.
2| How long have you been volunteering?
I have been volunteering for six years and look forward to many more.
3| What motivates you to give back to the community?
My love for kids… seeing the kids excited, loving each other, and enjoying themselves in the moment.
4| What do you do when you volunteer?
I try to do it all: arts and crafts, basketball, bible study, shower & bedtimes, distribution of food & snacks, one on ones, mentor, worm the fishhooks and much more.
5| How would you encourage others to get involved in their community?
Continue to share life-changing stories and experiences and extend the invitation. Our kids need us; we need to be there for them.
6| In one sentence, can you explain why you donate your time to this organization.
Seeker Springs is a well-structured organization that has focused on forgotten and overlooked children in the community for the past 25 years.
7| What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering?
If I can borrow Nike’s slogan- “Just do it!”, look for opportunities, embrace them and watch how the act of serving others serves you.
