Senior Vice President,
J.D., Louis D. Brandeis School of Law – University of Louisville
B.A. (English), University of Louisville
Timothy has served with the Kentucky team since joining the Argent Louisville office in 2014. He has worked in the financial and estate planning area for over 30 years, including in his law practice and with J.P. Morgan’s Private Bank and PNC Wealth Management.
Timothy provides strategic fiduciary planning support across Argent Trust Company for new trust development and acquisition. In the Kentucky market, he focuses on estate planning, family office services, strategic wealth transfer, business succession and fiduciary services, including special needs trusts. Timothy creates and delivers tailored proposals that may include the considerable advantages of the Tennessee situs in trust ownership of closely-held business interests, asset protection, community property trusts, and transactional income tax trusts. He uses clients’ last wills and revocable trusts, irrevocable gift and income tax trusts, and grantor retained interest and charitable trusts to minimize income, gift and estate tax recognition, to organize, manage and preserve intergenerational wealth, and to accomplish long-term financial and charitable goals.
Timothy is a frequent speaker on fiduciary choice of law and situs issues, advisory roles in directed trusts, and business succession and transactional tools. Timothy is a member of the State Bar in Kentucky and Indiana, several Bar Associations and Planning Councils, and speakers committees for law schools and nonprofits. He serves on the advisory boards for the Center for Women & Families Prevention Services, Coaching Boys into Men, and Own It: Men Against Violence Against Women.
Timothy’s wife is Trish Barrett, an accomplished fiber artist, and his son is Spencer, a honor roll student at Walden School, who participates in the Math and Science Clubs, BETA, KUNA, cross country, track, and soccer. The Barrett’s enjoy their standard poodles, hiking and travelling, having bicycled in several states, Canada, Italy and France, hiked the Grand Canyon, and volunteered at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
