Timothy G. Barrett, J.D.

Timothy has served with the Kentucky team since joining Argent’s Louisville office in 2014. He is a graduate, with honors, of the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law and an active member of the state bars in Kentucky and Indiana in good standing. Including his tenure at Argent Trust Company, Timothy has over 30 years’ experience, with past employment at J.P. Morgan Private Bank and PNC Private Wealth Management, and a law practice focused on trust and estate planning. As Trust Counsel, Timothy provides legal resources and training, reviews new business opportunities, and drafts forms, documents, marketing materials, and subject-matter pieces for publication.

Timothy’s expertise in multiple states in strategic planning, family governance, business succession, and wealth transfer furthers Argent’s clients’ generational financial success. He develops and presents tailored proposals designed to protect, manage, and grow clients’ wealth; monitors administrative services; assesses risk; and provides solutions in cooperation with the client’s attorney, accountant, and other personal advisors. Timothy has assisted families in organizing ownership and operation of private companies; residential and commercial real estate purchasing, development, and leasing; charitable gifting; and private foundations, among other ventures.

Timothy speaks often on Tennessee Investment Services Trusts, business succession, special needs trusts, choice of law, taxation, and numerous other subjects. He is a Bingham Fellow and has served on the American Inn of Court; Professional Advisors Council for Community Foundations; Lilly Foundation Scholarship Committee; Leave a Legacy Planning Committee; Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of Kentuckiana; Prevention Services Advisory Board for the Center for Women and Families; Metro Louisville Estate Planning Council; Estate Planning Council of Southern Indiana; Brandeis Society; Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana Bar Associations; and University of Kentucky Estate Planning Institute Committee.

Timothy’s wife, Trish, retired from strategic planning at Jewish Healthcare Corporation to become an accomplished fabric artist and yoga instructor. Their son, Spencer, works as an architectural designer in Louisville and has a Professional Master of Architecture degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design. They love to travel and have visited, hiked, and/or bicycled in numerous national parks and forests, as well as many foreign countries. Timothy takes time to read, hone his culinary skills, and play golf and volleyball. They have three dogs: Cleo, Frodo, and Jazzy.
