Jim joined Argent in 2016, bringing over 40 years experience in the forest products industry and timberland management business. He is responsible for developing a program of initial contact and follow up with all new clients, and providing the data and information prospects need to make an informed decision to invest in the asset class.
Jim began his forestry career with Weyerhaeuser Company, working in wood procurement, land use, and timberland acquisitions, exchanges and sales. In the mid 1980s he led one of the first large land transactions between a forest products company and an institutional investor.
Jim later joined Wachovia Bank and in 1988 was an early pioneer in forming one of the first Timberland Investment Management Organizations (TIMOs), Wachovia Timberland Group as Director of New Business Development. With Wachovia and later Regions, he was instrumental in growing the business unit to over $2.2 billion in assets under management.
Jim earned the BS degree in Forest Resource Management at West Virginia University and currently serves as a member of the Visiting Committee for the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design at WVU. He is a member of the Society of American Foresters and a Registered Forester in North Carolina. Jim and his wife Brenda have two children, CJ and Katie. Jim is an active leader in his local church, and in their free time they enjoy gardening, upland bird hunting, and West Virginia University sports.
