Mid-Level ESOP Attorney and Litigation Support
Position Summary:

Responsibilities:
• Deploy an understanding of ERISA and tax laws applicable to ESOP administration and ESOP transactions and to litigation and U.S. Department of Labor investigations
• Prepare, review and negotiate the terms of documents for ESOP transactions
• Help manage lawsuits and U.S. Department of Labor investigations
• Conduct legal research for litigation and U.S. Department of Labor investigations
• Assist in the preparation of motions, briefs, and other court filings and responses to U.S. Department of Labor inquiries
• Assist in the development of litigation strategy
• Attend ESOP industry conferences and other events to increase ESOP knowledge and skills
• Some travel required.
• Report directly to the head of Argent’s ESOP team
Education and Experience:
- Juris Doctorate
- A concentration in ERISA and ESOPs
- Litigation experience in courts desirable
- Minimum of 7+ years of professional work experience
Candidate Skills:
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills in the ERISA arena
- Ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously
- Demonstrated litigation experience, particularly involving the drafting of briefs and motions
- Maintain a high level of service to both Argent Trust colleagues and to ESOPs and the employers that sponsor them
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a variety of people
- Experience with negotiations
- Strong organizational skills
- Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends when required
- Bright, creative, ability to “think outside the box”
- Ability to communicate effectively with outside counsel in ESOP litigation and S. Department of Labor investigations
- Superior writing skills
