One of my favorite rock groups of all time is CHICAGO. Recently, the famed group was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their arrangements expertly blending rock music with horns were revolutionary at the time.

CHICAGO also was a revolutionary band championing social justice concerns. During the tumultuous time that was the late 60’s, they penned a song entitled ‘Questions 67 and 68’. Take a listen some time. It’s a great song, with fantastic melody and horn arrangements.

Questioning status quo has always been important. And never more important than the questions arising with your retirement and your finances.

This month’s newsletter will pose some questions for you to consider, and you can take stock of how you might answer them.

The Questions

  • •What do you want your retirement to look like?
  • •What do you want your legacy to be?
  • •When would you like to create a financial plan?
  • •Why is your retirement plan important to you?
  • •What would you like to spend your life savings on?
  • •What happens if you have to live only on your IRA, Social Security and a 401K?
  • •What happens to your lifestyle if you live too long?
  • •What happens if you get sick along the way to the ideal retirement?
  • •If you understand you need $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 for retirement, how will you fund that?
  • •If you are a small business, do you know what the business is worth, both on a current valuation and a ‘fire sale’ valuation?
  • •Are my loved ones properly protected, and will they be able to survive unseen circumstances?

Those are some tough questions. And the answers may be even harder to come to grips with. A concerned person needs to have answers to these difficult questions.

How to Find the Answers

When you are sick, you call the doctor for an appointment. You explain the symptoms of your illness, and then listen to his expert advice and solutions.

Sometimes it takes more than one visit to the doctor to solve your particular issue. This is a standard procedure.

It’s no different with your finances, and your search for the answers to these questions above.

You should search for a financial services professional, one who will listen to your symptoms and work with you find solutions to your questions. It might take a while, and the solution might not be what you thought or wanted to hear. But in order to ‘get well’, you have to be engaged and a participant in the process.

‘Hope’ is a good thing. But it is not a valid financial strategy.
